Interview Plan/Write-Up
For my interview with Ashleigh (literally one of the sweetest people around), I've decided to focus on her first time living away from home/on her own. Ashleigh told me how close she was with her Mom all through her life, and how suddenly being thrust into living on her own at college was really a jarring, but totally freeing experience for her. She felt that everyone should experience this feeling at least once in their life, and I wholeheartedly agree with her. Ashleigh also met her husband at college, IRONICALLY IN A "MARRIAGE AND FAMILY" CLASS, and their daughter is absolutely beautiful.
Questions:
1. Tell me more about your relationship with your mom - how would you describe it? Did you share a lot with her? How did she feel about you going away from home for college?
2. When you first settled in at Hofstra (college), when did it really hit you that you were on your own? What was different about it than being at home?
3. Being on your own requires a lot of decision making, whether or not you are ready to be independent - do you regret any of the decisions you made/didn't make while at Hofstra?
4. Tell me about how you and your husband met - what made you decide to take a "marriage and family" class? What was it like getting to know one another?
5. What do you think those years on your own at Hofstra taught you about being independent? How did that change your relationship with your Mom and how do you think that experience changed who you are as a person/as a Mother with a daughter of your own?
